Hire a JavaScript Developer for Node and the Front End
JavaScript on both sides of the request
Node and Express APIs, browser scripts, and front-end work, from the developer who leads a production React and Node SaaS.
JavaScript runs in the browser and on the server, and most hiring pages only cover one side. A front-end developer who cannot change the API, or a Node developer who avoids the browser, leaves gaps someone else has to fill.
I am a freelance JavaScript developer in Fort Worth, Texas, working on both sides. You talk to me directly, and I write the code.
What I build with JavaScript
- Node and Express REST APIs on PostgreSQL or SQLite, with workers for email and background jobs.
- Front-end features in React, SvelteKit, or plain JavaScript, depending on what the project already uses.
- Browser scripts that change a live page based on where the visitor came from.
- Browser-side processing that keeps heavy work off the server.
Proof you can check
Four JavaScript projects, from server APIs to scripts that run on a live page.
| Project | Stack | What it shows | By the numbers |
|---|---|---|---|
| RE/AMP | React, Node, Express, PostgreSQL | A production SaaS, including Stripe webhook handling and Twilio messaging | 2,500+ of 5,000+ commits; 180,000+ lines |
| Public data research agent | Node.js, Express, SQLite | A local API with fuzzy search over large public property datasets | Read-only, bound to localhost |
| Inventory ad feed pipeline | JavaScript page script, Go API | A script that read the VIN from the ad click and matched the page’s price and disclaimer to the ad | One API behind the feed and the page |
| Careers site | SvelteKit, Directus | City-targeted job pages with JobPosting markup | About 460 users a month over nine months; 451 applicants, per GA4 |
The async error pattern I enforce with typed return shapes and lint rules is in why I return data and error, not throw.
Front-end developer for hire
If the work is mostly in the browser, I can take it on as front-end work: screens, forms, uploads, and the states between them. I still read the API it talks to, because most front-end bugs start with data the screen did not expect.
For a React-heavy project, the React developer page goes deeper. If you are not sure the problem is on the front end at all, read front-end vs back-end vs full-stack.
How to evaluate a JavaScript developer
What happens when an async call fails?
Unhandled promise failures are the most common silent bug in JavaScript. Ask how they make sure a failure is seen, not swallowed.
How do they keep a Node API safe?
Listen for input validation, permission checks on every endpoint, and secrets kept out of the code. “The front end handles that” is the wrong answer.
How do they keep a codebase consistent?
Ask which rules are enforced by tools, such as lint rules, types, and tests, and which depend on memory. Memory does not scale past one person.
Do they work in TypeScript or plain JavaScript?
Either can work. What matters is that the project picks one on purpose and checks it with tools.
Questions about hiring a Node.js freelancer
Do you write TypeScript?
Yes, TypeScript is part of my stack. If your project uses it, I work in it. If it does not, I will not convert it unless that solves a real problem.
Can you take over an existing Node codebase?
Yes. I start with triage: what is broken, what is risky, and what can wait. See production debugging and code rescue.
Can you connect our app to other services?
Yes. Payments, messaging, email, and ad platforms are covered on the API and system integrations page.
What does a JavaScript developer cost?
It depends on scope and experience. You get a written quote after the first call. For market ranges, read what it costs to hire a web developer.
Start with a call
Describe what needs to change and where it runs, then book a call. A small, scoped first task is a good way to start.

Defined scope
Deliverables, checkpoints, and a handoff.
Retainer
Ongoing work
Development, maintenance, and technical SEO for a set block of time.
