Hire a Python and Django Developer

A Python and Django developer, not a placement

You talk to the engineer who writes the code. Data-driven sites, internal tools, API queues, and crawlers, with projects you can check.

Most places that let you hire a Python developer are placement services. They match you with someone from a pool, and you meet that person after you sign.

I am a freelance Python and Django developer in Fort Worth, Texas. You talk to me on the first call, and I am the one who writes, tests, and ships the code. This site runs on Django.

What I build with Python and Django

  • Data-driven page systems. Sites where pages come from database records, so adding a city or a product means adding a row, not hand-building a page.
  • Internal tools and portals. Logins, invites, roles, and the screens a team uses every day, with authorization enforced on the server.
  • API work behind a queue. Apps that call outside services at a pace those services allow and keep going when some calls fail.
  • Crawlers and data collection. Multi-worker Python jobs that claim work safely, recover when a worker stalls, and report what happened.
  • Content and SEO pipelines. Validated content that imports into Django with its metadata and JSON-LD built from the page itself.

Proof you can check

Four Python and Django systems, each with a write-up or public code.

Project Stack What it shows By the numbers
City landing pages Django, JSON-LD State, county, and city pages built from records, each with its own title, canonical URL, and JSON-LD 3 states: Texas, Kentucky, Indiana
Phone scrubber Python, Django, MySQL, HTMX A rate-limited API queue that returns results in the original row order Up to 30 phones per row; a 100-row file is up to 3,000 API requests
Distributed crawler Python, Playwright, Docker Workers that claim jobs safely and recover when one stalls 10 to 20 parcels per batch; stalled after 10 minutes; alert after 3 failures
Brazen Django A public portal with invites, password reset, and user, manager, and admin roles 27 tests

Crawler batch sizes and timeouts are from memory of how the system ran. How this site’s content gets validated and imported into Django is in how this site’s content is built.

How to evaluate a Python developer

These questions work for any candidate, including me. Ask them before you sign anything.

Can I read code they wrote?

Ask for a public repository or a walkthrough of real work. A portfolio of screenshots tells you about design, not about how the code holds up.

How do they test?

A good answer names what gets tested first: boundaries, bad input, and permissions. “We test everything” with no specifics usually means very little gets tested.

How do they design the data model?

Ask how they would model your core records before any screens exist. Most expensive rewrites trace back to a data model nobody planned.

What happens when an outside API fails?

Your app will depend on services you do not control. Listen for retries, rate limits, and a record of what failed, rather than “it just works.”

How do changes reach production?

Look for a staging environment, a review step, and a way to roll back. Deploying straight from a laptop is a risk you inherit.

Where Python fits, and where it does not

Django is a strong choice for data-heavy sites, admin-driven content, internal tools, and anything that needs a solid ORM and authentication on day one. Python is also the natural fit for crawlers, data cleanup, and automation.

For a front end with a lot of live interaction, I usually pair Django with HTMX, or build a separate React front end. My largest production app, RE/AMP, is React and Node, and the custom web applications page covers that side.

Questions about hiring a Django freelancer

Can you take over an existing Django codebase?

Yes. I start with triage: what is broken, what is risky, and what can wait. The code rescue page and how I triage a codebase on fire explain the approach.

Do you work with Flask or FastAPI?

My production Python web work is in Django. If your app is in Flask or FastAPI, tell me what it does and I will say plainly whether I am the right fit.

Do you work hourly or by project?

Either. A defined build is usually a project, ongoing work is a retainer, and an urgent problem is a rescue. See the four engagement types.

What does a Python developer cost?

It depends on scope and experience. You get a written quote after the first call. For market ranges, read what it costs to hire a web developer.

Start with a call

Describe the problem in a few sentences and book a call. If an audit or a small first milestone makes more sense than a full build, I will say so.

Engagement types

Four ways to work together. No prices.

Project

Defined scope

Deliverables, checkpoints, and a handoff.

Retainer

Ongoing work

Development, maintenance, and technical SEO for a set block of time.

Rescue

Urgent fix

Triage, diagnose, repair, document.

Audit
